I am committed to providing capable and deserving students with the opportunity to fulfil a voluntary work placement at my constituency office.
The voluntary work placement program allows school, college and university students a forum in which they may enhance their studies with the practical application of studied concepts in a real world setting. The experience that comes with a voluntary work placement has proven valuable for many students as they see the inner workings of the National Assembly for Wales, the Welsh Government and the Welsh legislative process.
A limited number of voluntary work placements are available each year and preference is given to students from Merthyr Tydfil & Rhymney. Travel expenses will be paid.
All interns will be expected to work as part of my team. Students should be able to adapt to the demanding environment of an Assembly office. Excellent writing and communications skills will also be expected.
Typical activities include:
- Liaise with relevant groups/personnel within Merthyr Tydfil & Rhymney
- Assist in the preparation and organisation of the specific constituency campaigns
- Deal with local residents by telephone and in person at the constituency office
- Draft letters and documents as required and undertake general administrative duties as required
